John Page




John B. Page was born in Rutland VT on February 25, 1826. At the age of sixteen he worked as a teller at the National Bank of Rutland and later became president.

Page also served as president of the Rutland Railroad Company, director of the Champlain Transportation Company and the Caughnawayga Ship Canal project, treasure of the Howe Scale Company, and a member of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions.

Page served the Vermont General Assembly from 1852 to 1854 and as State Treasurer from 1860-1866. He was appointed Allotment Commissioner by President Abraham Lincoln.

Page served two terms as Vermont governor and also spent a brief period as State Representative before retiring to private life. Page was Governor from October 13, 187 to October 15, 1869.
